The Lifeguard reports to the Community Leader, the Lifeguard monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provides assistance to swimmers; cleans, adjusts, and performs minor repairs to swimming pools and auxiliary equipment. Duties and Responsibilities
Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas.
Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid.
Maintains order in swimming areas.
Removes debris from surface of water, using net.
Cleans bottom and sides of pool, using such aids as underwater vacuum cleaner, hose, brush, detergent, acid solution, and sander.
Dumps chemicals, in prescribed amounts, to purify water in pool and tests regularly; keeps a chemical log that shows the pool chemical testing readings.
Assists residents using the facility by answering questions or by contacting another staff member who may be better suited to meet the resident’s needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.
Must possess a Lifeguard certification/First Aid/CPR Aid/CPR certification.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Must communicate and work well with residents.
Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical work.
Must be able to work a varied schedule, including weekends and nights.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of standard techniques and standards of lifeguards.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate verbally with residents in a courteous manner

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Also must be prepared to assist an individual in a swimming pool in crisis at any time, and performs occasional difficult physical labor such as climbing, bending, kneeling, and performing repetitive movements.
This position requires the ability to lift weights of over 50 pounds as needed.
This job operates in an indoor or outdoor environment in controlled temperature or in summer heat.
