A Day in the Life:
As our Director of Payroll, you will be responsible for directing all aspects of payroll operations. You will oversee payroll processes and procedures, including taxes and finance demands regarding payroll. Working with a team of payroll professionals, you will monitor payroll operations, identify and troubleshoot issues, and design short- and long-term solutions for systems improvements.
The Director of Payroll must be able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize while under continuous deadlines maintaining professionalism and a calm demeanor when presented with stressful situations.
What You ll Do:
Lead the team to deliver operational excellence for payroll including compliant, accurate and timely payrolls each time.
Build a positive work environment that encourages teamwork. Retain and develop employees through training, career development, reward and recognition.
Responsible for payroll administration, taxes, and garnishments in a multi-state environment.
Maintain and manage payroll-related legal and regulatory compliance.
Design and maintain effective internal controls for the payroll function.
Resolve issues by providing root cause analysis and corrective action for all non-routine situations.
Supervise and audit the comprehensive payroll process and set guidelines for all procedures impacting employee compensation.
Oversee the timely completion of bi-weekly audit and review all payroll as required reporting for auditing payroll, reporting accuracy and potential training opportunities
Ensure up to date and accurate federal and state tax requirements are met and funds deposited appropriately
Maintain HRIS and payroll information systems to ensure accuracy of data.
Review and analyze payroll systems and procedures; identify and recommend system and procedural changes to increase business efficiencies and reduce risk/loss.
Create, establish and implement new payroll processes and procedures as necessary.
Act as the principal point of contact for operational payroll issues, serving as liaison between Payroll and other departments.
Serve as liaison between payroll provider and Alliance to ensure updates and adjustments to system are in place in a timely manner.
Review and approve establishment of new unemployment numbers for each state.
Monitor state unemployment accounts to ensure accuracy and communicate with state agencies for current balances.
Review and approve quarterly reports and ensure accurate, timely filing.
Review and approve termination checks or other live checks, confirm accuracy and confirm payments are in compliance with the Company s policies and procedures.
Identify opportunities for training and support to new Managers, Regional Managers and VP s regarding Payroll operations; partner with Performance and Human Resources teams in the creation and delivery of training.
Establish and maintain strong relationships and ongoing communications and collaboration with Human Resources, Accounting, IT, Operations, Legal, and Tax.
Ensure all payroll processes are compliant with current employment laws partner with HR and in-house employment counsel to ensure compliance.
Evaluate and report overall effectiveness of department through metrics, identify and act on improvement opportunities, apply best practices, and implement and leverage technology to improve operations.
Must be able to manage multiple task and prioritize while under continuous deadlines maintaining professionalism and a calm demeanor when presented with stressful situations.
Complete ad hoc analysis and projects as needed.
What You ll Need to Succeed:
Bachelor s Degree in Finance, Human Resources, Accounting or Payroll
Minimum of 5+ years of experience managing a payroll operations team preferably in a multi-state environment
Ultimate Software experience
Knowledge of labor and employment regulations
Proven strong people management experience.
Superior interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to drive organizational change.
Master s in in Finance, Human Resources, Accounting or Payroll
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES:
Ability to efficiently solve problems by utilizing quality communication skills
Excellent excel and other computer/pc skills
Excellent communication skills, both in-person, in email and over the telephone
High degree of confidentiality and trustworthiness as well as attention to detail and follow-up skills
Ability to work a schedule during normal work hours and that may be other than Monday-Friday, 8-5. Work in excess of 40 hours per week is likely
