A Day in the Life:
The Accounting Manager will contribute to the success of the organization by providing oversight of the process of reporting financial information to Alliance Residential Company clients. The Accounting Manager will be expected to oversee and lead the execution of daily financial reporting activities. Continuously initiate the opportunity for developing relationships with Property Accountants, Senior Property Accountants, Assistant Accounting Managers and Business Managers to achieve ultimate business goals. Thorough knowledge of bank reconciliations, analysis of monthly statements and general ledgers, sales tax, initiating payments and fees and problem solving are keys to our success. Timely and accurate reporting a measurable indicator of success in the Accounting Manager role.
What You ll Do:
Oversee the financial reporting process for assigned properties.
Supervise a team of Accounting Associates through engagement and mentorship.
Proactively promote open communication between all stakeholders internal and external and actively follow-up on all matters pertaining to Alliance business functions as needed.
Perform comprehensive review and analysis of monthly financial reporting packages.
Monitor timeliness and accuracy of the general ledger function through the issuance of financial statements.
Ensure due dates are meet for critical payments to include real estate taxes, insurance, debt service, distribution to clients.
Ensure deadlines for accurate reporting are meet per client reporting requirements and timing.
Provide friendly, responsive and proactive communication to clients and associates.
Understand client accounting expectations (including reporting requirements, bank accounts, critical timing and related items.
Respond to problems and ensure issues are resolved accurately and timely.
Cash management and company liaison with client regarding cash status.
Complete forecasting of cash flow and financial analysis of monthly reporting packages.
Ensure records are maintained in accordance with the Alliance Residential Company record retention policy.
Managing and coordinating external and internal audits.
Managing and coordinating retail reporting as needed.
Under the direction of the Controller coordinate the recruiting, and training activities for the team.
Actively manage accounting team through training, engagement and collaborative communication.
Provide technical direction to subordinates and motivate employees to achieve peak performance.
Recognize and reward associates utilizing the Accounting Recognition program.
Identify and implement process improvements.
Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and maintain effective internal controls.
Perform additional duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Make recommendations and modifications regarding office performance, business needs, etc.
Any other tasks assigned or directed.
What You ll Need to Succeed:
A./B.S. degree in Accounting/Finance
Two or more years of previous work experience in accounting, proficient in excel, accrual accounting experience required
Prior experience managing and development of people preferred
Previous experience with Alliance as Assistant Accounting Manager or within industry in a leadership accounting role preferred
Proficiency and command of Microsoft suite software i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook preferred
CPA designation a plus not required
MBA degree in Accounting/Finance a plus not required
High degree of responsibility and initiative.
Possess strong management and leadership skills.
Must be able to perform intermediate mathematical functions.
Knowledge in general accepted accounting principles.
Ability to operate software s such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and relate effectively, productively, and positively with other associates and clients.
Ability to multitask and switch focus frequently.
High tolerance for ambiguity and adaption to change.
Ability to operate a 10 key calculator.
Typing and data entry skills.
Ability to have flexibility with working schedule based on business and deadline needs.
Ability to work a schedule during normal work hours and that may be other than Monday-Friday, 8-5. Work in excess of 40 hours per week is likely.
Consistent, regular and in person attendance during regular working hours at the workplace is required.
