A Day in the Life:
The Controller will contribute to the success of the organization by leading a team of accounting professionals and ensuring the accuracy of reporting financial information to Alliance Residential Company clients. You will be expected to oversee and lead the team to execution of daily financial reporting activities and continuously initiate the opportunity for developing relationships amongst the team to achieve ultimate business goals. Thorough knowledge of full cycle accounting functions for a multiple entity/client organization and problem solving are keys to our success. You will have a fiduciary responsibility to Alliance Residential Company and ownership entities of each asset.
What You ll Do:
Lead a team of Accounting Managers and Accountants to complete monthly financials for assigned properties.
Assist the VP of Property Accounting in promoting process improvement initiatives across the portfolio.
Develop and mentor associates with focus on providing an engaging environment and promoting from within when possible.
Promptly identify team members performance issues and coach or counsel associates to resolution.
Establish relationships with assigned clients and engage in effective communication of goals and tasks to team members.
Provide professional, responsive, and proactive communication to clients and associates.
Establish and communicate expectations and goals on an ongoing basis.
Communicate personnel issues to the Vice President of Property Accounting.
Recognize and reward associates for outstanding performance.
Development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information to appraise operating results.
Maintain the company s system of accounts, books and records on all company transactions and assets.
Provide effective financial controls at the asset and any specialized accounting requirements at the asset.
Manage and coordinate external and internal audits.
Manage and coordinate retail reporting as needed.
Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly financial statements and EOM procedures.
Oversee asset cash management and act as company liaison with client regarding cash status.
Work on special projects, including research and resolution of complex issues.
Make recommendations and modifications regarding office performance, business needs, etc.
What You ll Need to Succeed:
A./B.S. degree in Accounting/Finance or Master s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
Seven or more years accounting experience with at least three years in a supervisory role
CPA designation a plus
Prior experience managing, mentoring, and developing people in accounting roles
Previous experience with Alliance as Accounting Manager or a multiple entitiy/client industry in an accounting leadership role
Strong command of Microsoft suite, i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
