AMLI has a rare opportunity for a Vice President of Legal & Risk Management at AMLI. This is a national position that is highly visible and critical to the success of our business. In this role, you will be responsible for all landlord/tenant legal responsibilities and concerns; oversee general legal and risk assessment matters as arise in property management operations, such as leasing policies and procedures, resident disputes, litigation, contract review, and compliance with rules and regulations.

This is not a remote job but we are open to having it based at one of our corporate offices in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas or Denver.

Essential Functions:

• Investigate and present initiatives and/or modifications to property management operations to promote effective risk assessment and legal compliance as appropriate.
• Drive the compliance and understanding of fair housing and disparate impact throughout the business model.
• Collaborate with Education, Marketing, IT, Procurement, and other business units to evaluate and address legal and risk exposure related to property management business operations.
• Oversee, negotiate, advise, manage and/or coordinate, as needed, pending and threatened litigation, including fair housing complaints, complex collection and/or eviction disputes, and small claims suits.
• Develop collaborative relationships with local counsel, apartment associations and professional organizations that can better AMLI's property management business.
• Oversee and advice on contract database and review of operational contracts and service agreements.
• Serve as legal and risk assessment resource to executive management, regional management, and on-site personnel, providing support, advice, education, guidance, and customer service.
• Provide leadership and direction to staff, which includes effective employee relations, compliance with employment law, and ongoing training and motivation for staff. Embrace as diverse, equitable and inclusive work

Education and experience Required:

* College degree required. Legal degree or paralegal degree preferred.

* Minimum 5 years' experience in
multi-family property management
operations and legal compliance, fair housing compliance and dispute resolution, contract review and dispute resolution, risk management and/or related areas required.

* Experience in managing a diverse workforce. Ability to manage conflict, provide strategic direction and drive business results by managing the performance of staff members.

* Advanced presentation, communication and legal/technical writing skills. Must be able to present/explain business case level to senior management. * Advanced analytical and problem solving skills. Must be able to work across functions and levels.
