The Technical Accounting and External Reporting team plays a vital role in Greystar's global accounting organization and is responsible for: 1) Greystar's financial reporting under generally accepted accounting principles, 2) SEC-like quarterly and annual reporting, and 3) global accounting policy and technical accounting support, and 4) other strategic projects as applicable. This role will evolve as the team continues to proactively meet the needs of the quickly growing global business. Applies generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to assist in the preparation of quarterly external financial statements, research in complex and/or unusual technical accounting areas, and implementation of new accounting policies and standards.
Assist with the preparation of quarterly, SEC-like external reporting.
Maintain, update, streamline, and reconcile quarterly reporting working files supporting the external reporting process.
Assist the office of the CFO and other business lines on technical accounting questions and transactional support.
Collaborate with accounting teams, key business managers, and others to answer questions, provide support, and ensure timely completion of external reporting needs.
Assist in preparing and delivering group training.
Research and communicate periodic updates by the FASB and IASB.
Assist with the annual financial statement audit by providing support, communicating deliverables and timelines, and ensuring audits are completed timely.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
College degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field, and/or equivalent experience is highly preferred. CPA license preferable.
3-6 years of relevant experience, including financial statement preparation in accordance with accounting and finance principles and application of accounting standards. Public accounting experience is highly preferred.
A combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the application and usage of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Strong organizational, time-management and project management skills in order to effectively track, report and manage multiple deliverables and priorities where meeting deadlines is critical.
Demonstrated ability to write and communicate effectively to prepare and explain financial data to internal stakeholders and external auditors.
Ability to work independently and efficiently.
Ability to collaborate and work with team members across different lines of business.
Strong proficiency in excel; experience in Workiva, Oracle, and Yardi a plus.
Demonstrated experience implementing financial and business process improvements utilizing AI, robotics, and/or machine learning a plus.
